Welcome to this retreat, designed for individuals who possess a curious nature and wish to delve into the profound transformative capacities of yoga and the Alexander Technique. Within a secure and inspirational environment, VIRKELIG refers to this journey as the process of ‘becoming what you are’, a path that unfolds by engaging with ‘the four corners of transformation’: the body, food, emotions, and thinking. The Alexander Technique serves as the cohesive perspective that harmoniously interconnects all these elements.
Your Journey
Join us on this retreat as we embark on a profound exploration of “becoming what you are,” with the invaluable support of the Alexander Technique. Throughout the program, we will delve into the four corners of transformation—body, emotions, food, and thoughts. Each day will commence with invigorating Sattva yoga sessions, cultivating heightened bodily awareness and warmth. In the afternoon and evening sessions, we will take a deeper dive into inner experiences, engaging in contact work and practicing attunement to both our own and others’ nervous systems.
As part of your retreat experience, you will receive three individual Alexander Technique lessons, one each with Jeppe, Sarah, and Anne. These lessons will offer a unique opportunity to explore and reflect upon different expressions of the Alexander Technique. Daily yoga sessions will focus on investigating the body, while evenings will feature meditation and contact work. Our exploration will also extend to the realm of nutrition, as we examine the impact of food and fasting on our well-being. For those interested, there will be a chance to engage in a safe, gentle, and supportive fasting experience lasting up to three days.
The Four Corners of Change serve as the foundation for personal transformation during this retreat. Through the practices of yoga and the Alexander Technique, we will encounter the reality of our bodies. Silent contemplation, contact work, and nurturing exercises will reveal and illuminate our emotional states. By embracing simple and nutritious food, as well as potentially undertaking a fasting experience, we will confront and explore our relationship with nourishment.
Furthermore, through shared reflections and discussions, we will integrate these newfound experiences into our ways of understanding and thinking about the world. Our collective journey during the retreat will guide us towards a state of increasing neutrality, allowing us to truly grasp its meaning and recognize the abundance of possibilities within it.
At the heart of this retreat lies the Alexander Technique, a distinctive approach to body and consciousness work typically conducted through one-on-one lessons. Through verbal guidance and gentle touch, the teacher will lead you towards new ways of experiencing yourself and your body. This structured and systematic method fosters the creation and integration of novel experiences and possibilities, serving as the unifying perspective throughout the entire retreat. Each participant will receive at least one individual lesson, providing personalized guidance and support to delve deeper into the transformative process.
Sattva Yoga, a gentle yet demanding practice, will guide our physical exploration. With fewer poses but extended periods of immersion in each, we aim to delve deeply into our experiences. By allowing ample time for the body and nervous system to relax, we create an environment conducive to clear inner experiences. The practice centers around finding a balanced bodily position and allowing the breath to pulsate and open from within. By affording space and time for the body to respond and react to the poses, our inner sensory reality gradually expands and clarifies.
