Join us for an extraordinary retreat that combines the transformative powers of yoga, meditation, and hiking. Prepare to embark on a journey that will push your physical and mental limits, while simultaneously granting you an array of incredible emotions: gratitude, awe, a taste of the divine, and a tranquil inner stillness. By immersing yourself in this experience, you will gain a fresh vantage point from which to view your own existence, enabling you to prioritize what truly matters. Just as mountains and weather possess an unpredictable nature, so too does life itself. Through the act of hiking, you will encounter a spiritual awakening that fosters mindfulness, should you allow it to permeate your being.
Your Journey
This incredible retreat welcomes individuals of all yoga backgrounds, whether you’re a novice or an experienced practitioner. Our morning yoga classes follow the traditional Hatha style, with the pace tailored to the group’s skill levels.
Our diverse retreat attracts participants with varying degrees of experience, which offers a fantastic opportunity for mutual learning. The morning yoga session typically lasts 75 minutes and incorporates pranayama (breathing exercises) and relaxation techniques.
After the invigorating yoga session, a wholesome breakfast awaits. Following breakfast, we will embark on hikes, either by foot or transportation to the starting point. The proximity of the starting point may vary, ranging from a short walk to a 45-minute drive. Hiking in Norway presents a unique experience compared to other countries.
In Norway, hiking entails vigorous walks along trails in the countryside, which means traversing uphill and downhill terrains of forests, grasslands, and rocky landscapes. Occasionally, you may need to employ hand assistance. The hikes will cover distances of 3 to 5 kilometers one way, with elevations ranging from 480 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.) to 1200 m.a.s.l. The difficulty level is moderate, and a moderate level of fitness is required to participate.
However, please note that we maintain a leisurely pace with frequent breaks. Our intention is to savor the journey rather than rush up and down the trails. This unhurried approach fosters a meditative walking experience. Moreover, the hikes offer awe-inspiring vistas of Norway’s fjords and mountains that leave participants speechless. Silence becomes a cherished companion while sitting atop the mountain, enjoying a packed lunch or capturing stunning photographs. Although the hikes may pose challenges, the rewards make it all worthwhile.
The sunrise hike is a popular option among our hiking yogis and yoginis, weather permitting. You will ascend to witness the enchanting sunrise over the mountains. Words fail to capture the profound and breathtaking magic of watching the sun emerge from the horizon in the serene early morning hours.
After each hike, we return to the yoga studio for rejuvenating stretching and relaxation sessions. These sessions include a combination of yin and restorative yoga, aimed at aiding muscle recovery for the following day’s activities.
Our dinners feature delicious, fresh seafood sourced from local fishermen, alongside nutritious vegetables and delectable desserts such as banana bread, fruit salads, raw chocolate, or bliss balls.
During or after dinner, we engage in discussions centered around the essence of yoga and the eight limbs of yoga, deepening our understanding of this ancient practice.
Given the changeable weather in Norway, heavy rainfall may necessitate alternative plans. In such instances, we offer the option to spend a day at the local water park, Moldebadet, visit a museum, or participate in a raw chocolate workshop.
Please be aware that this retreat offers an active holiday experience. If you prefer a more relaxed vacation, you are still welcome to participate, although Pille Mitt strongly advises skipping some hiking trips and yoga classes. Walking in the mountains for three consecutive days can be physically demanding.
If you have any injuries or knee problems, we recommend bringing walking sticks along. The most essential items are sturdy walking shoes, a positive mindset, and the ability to listen to your body’s needs.
